Curry says big campaign ad will run on 18 January

Chuck Curry, candidate for Flathead County Sheriff

Tomorrow is the first day candidates can file for the 8 June primary in Montana. I’m betting that one of the first to submit his paperwork will be Chuck Curry, who is challenging incumbent Mike Meehan for the Republican nomination for sheriff of Flathead County. On his website, Curry promises he “…will be at the Flathead County courthouse on January 14th at 9:00 am to officially register as a Sheriff candidate for the 2010 election.” And tonight, at 1830, he’s holding a campaign meeting at the Elk’s Club in Kalispell.

It’s obvious that Curry, a former Flathead County undersheriff, has planned his run for some time. He obtained the www.chuckcurryforsheriff.com domain name for his campaign website on 29 June 2009. He also has a Facebook campaign site, which he used to advise his supporters to “Watch for our upcoming ad in the Daily Interlake on January 18th.” I suspect that will be at least a full page ad, so either he’s been raising money or he’s willing to dig deeply into his own pocket. That’s also Martin Luther King’s birthday. If this were Alabama, Curry’s choice of the MLK holiday for a campaign ad for sheriff might be considered a dog whistle for the kay-cubed crowd.

If Mike Meehan has a campaign website, it’s well hidden. In the meantime, you can go to http://www.therepublicansong.com/ and hear a Mike Meehan sing “Please Don’t Vote for a Democrat.”
