Flathead provides 55 percent of Ron Paul’s Montana money

Ron Paul That’s right — and just four donors account for $5,909 that the ultra-long-shot Texas physician, Congressman, and candidate for the Republican presidential nomination has raised locally in contributions of more than $200. Statewide, he’s raised at least $10,604, according to www.opensecrets.org.

Who are the Flathead Four?

Mark Welch, Columbia Falls, $2,300
Shelia Welch, Columbia Falls, $2,300
Amber Lynn Kelleher, Kalispell, $1,000
Tom Heatherington, Kalispell, $309

Welch lists himself as a carpenter, and he’s obviously doing pretty well at it.

Kelleher may be Amber in the Daniel and Amber L. Kelleher of Kalispell who serve on the national advisory board of the Center for Inquiry, in Washington, D.C. The Center for Inquiry describes itself this way:

The Center for Inquiry Washington D.C. offers an opportunity to put your principles into practice by joining other rationalists to work for positive change in society. In addition, the D.C. Center sponsors social events for freethinkers as well as intellectual programming, and assists with campus outreach.

CFI provides an ethical alternative to religious and paranormal worldviews. In this time of rising religiosity, anti-intellectualism and political turmoil on ethical issues, it is critical that rationalists and freethinkers join together to protect civil liberties, defend reason, and work toward increasing scientific literacy.

CFI’s advisory board includes Nobel laureates and scientific luminaries such as Martin Gardner and Ann Duryan, widow of Carl Sagen.

In 1988, Paul was the Libertarian Party’s choice for President, appearing on the ballot in more than 40 states. The feisty septuagenarian and tightwad is one of the more entertaining of the candidates at the joint question-and-obfuscate-the-answer forums that masquerade as debates these days. He’s attracted a following with his opposition to the war in Iraq, and has raised more money from the military than any other presidential candidate.
