GOP House hopeful Rosendale hires help from Texas

Over at Intelligent Discontent, Don Pogreba reports that GOP U.S. House hopeful Matt Rosendale — an erstwhile Maryland resident now living in Glendive, MT, a miserable, low, little town just west of the Dakota border — has hired a campaign operative with a colorful history that would not make all ethical people proud.

Rosendale can afford that kind of talent. So far he’s raised $73,000 and loaned himself $250,000. He’ll probably need approximately $2 million to win the GOP nomination and run a competitive race in the 2014 general election. He reportedly has deep pockets, much deeper pockets than his main opponent for the GOP nomination, Corey Stapleton.

Rosendale’s Federal Election Commission paperwork identifies his treasurer as Missoula attorney Bill VanCanagan. VanCanagan may be a figurehead. His assistant treasurer, Nancy Rennaker, works as a compliance specialist with the high powered, tea tinged, Austin, Texas, law firm Gober | Hilgers. His campaign banks at Austin’s Wells Fargo Bank, according to Rosendale’s Form 1 at FEC, although some of the campaign’s banking may end up in Montana.
