As midnight approached, the clouds thinned and parted, revealing a splendid lunar eclipse. Below, three images of the eclipse, two taken from my back porch, the other taken from a field adjacent to my backyard.
The blood-red fully eclipsed moon and the bright star Spica.
The penumbra takes a bite out of the moon.
A 20-second exposure blew out the fully eclipsed moon. Spica is very close to the moon at the lower right, and Mars is blown out on the upper right. Taken with a 24mm lens on an APS-C DSLR.
